Wimbledon men’s singles seeds for 2023: Carlos Alcaraz top seed, Nick Kyrgios and Foki sneak in

Wimbledon has announced the seedings for the 2023 Men’s singles draw with two confirmed top 32 players missing the tournament.

As expected the tournament organisers followed the usual convention and named the seeds by ranking.

As things stand, the only players among the world’s top 32 who has formally withdrawn from Wimbledon are Karen Khachanov and Pablo Carreno Busta.

Carlos Alcaraz has been named the top seed for the second Grand Slam in a row after he retook the No 1 ranking this week.

That leaves defending champion Novak Djokovic as the No 2 seed but won’t alter the Serbian’s status as the clear favourite.

After being the second seed for Roland Garros and going out early, Daniil Medvedev is the third seed this time around.

Casper Ruud will be the fourth seed but a run to the last four would represent his best performance at Wimbledon.

World No 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas has a poor record on grass this season but will still hold a decent seeding for the year’s third Major.

Jannik Sinner will be a top-eight seed at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career after he edged ahead of the duelling Americans and 9 and 10 in Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.

American Tommy Paul is the man to benefit most from the withdrawal of Khachanov as he is set to secure the No 16 seeding and, with that, the guarantee of not meeting a higher-ranked player until at least the fourth round of the Championships.

Another player to benefit from the Russian’s withdrawal is Nick Kyrgios, who was projected to secure the final seeding spot but got No 31 after Carreno Busta withdrew.

With four players among the 32, The United States is the best represented nation among the seeds just ahead of Spain who have three players in the elite group.

Cameron Norrie (No 12) and Dan Evans (no 29) will fly the flag for the United Kingdom as the host nations only seeded singles players.
