World No 1 Simona Halep gives update on her injury

World No 1 Simona Halep has revealed that a slipped disc caused her to retire during the China Open.
The French Open champion first picked the injury at last week’s Wuhan Open and then she retired midway through her first-round match against Ons Jabeur in Beijing on Sunday.
She confirmed that the injury is a lot more serious than initially thought.
“I had an MRI on my back and found out I have a disc hernia,” she said on Twitter.
“I will discuss with doctors in the next few days but hope to be back soon and will keep you updated.”
It means the Romanian is in a race against time to be fit for the season-ending WTA Finals, which takes place from October 21-28 in Singapore.
