Belinda Bencic has confirmed that she has given birth to a baby girl named Bella and both the child and mother are doing well.

Bencic took to Instagram and connected social media to announce the new addition to the WTA Tour family.

Her partner and coach Martin Hromkovic was with her every step of the way and the new family appear to be full of joy at this time.

Bencic gave birth to Bella on Tuesday as she confirmed in a simple post on Instagram which carried the caption: “Bella, 23.4.2024. Our love.”

The 27-year-old had a fantastic 2023, winning two tournaments and returning to the top 10. She won in Adelaide last January and made it to the Australian Open’s last 16. She also won the Abu Dhabi Open, defeating Liudmila Samsonova for her seventh title. However, in November of last year, she announced that she was pregnant and stepping away from the sport. She has now given birth in late April.

She is also the current Olympic gold medalist, but she will not be defending her title in Paris in July, unless she makes a miracle comeback to tennis and pulls of a few massive wins.

The Swiss star has also not said if she would return to tennis after giving birth, like other moms Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, and Elina Svitolina have done. Petra Kvitova will soon follow in her footsteps, since she is also expecting. Kvitova on the other hand has been pretty vocal about her desire to return to the sport.

Bencic has previously suggested that it is tough to envision how you will react to new experiences.

At the US Open last year she admitted that she doesn’t feel that she is necessarily a wiser player as a veteran of the WTA Tour.

“I mean, it’s difficult to say,” Bencic told reporters.

“Of course sometimes I feel like I can deal with some situations better, like kind of push through sometimes when I couldn’t before. But then I feel, as well, when I was younger I was maybe more fearless, maybe more relaxed because I was coming from juniors and have nothing to lose.

“It’s always some kind of different situation depending also where you are in your life.

“Eventually then you can learn sometimes from your mistakes. Sometimes you do the same mistake again. It’s never-ending. You always kind of have to figure out yourself in that situation once again.

“But for sure the experience always helps you and kind of, like, the mindset in these kind of moments.”
