Bianca Andreescu’s coach ‘hoping she’ll be ready’ for Indian Wells, but insists they won’t take risks

It is still very much a case of wait and see for Bianca Andreescu as she looks to return from her long injury layoff with her coach saying “we need a few more days”.
The reigning US Open champion hasn’t played any competitive tennis since the WTA Finals in October last year due to a long-standing knee problem.
She was expected to feature in the Dubai and Qatar events over the past fortnight, but pulled out of both tournaments as her team felt she wasn’t yet 100%.
Next up is the Indian Wells Masters where she is the defending champion and, although it is still a couple of weeks away, her coach Sylvain Bruneau says they will play it safe.
“Well it’s been a long road, a long recovery, but… it’s going well, especially recently, we’ve had some really good momentum and things are in, I would say, good shape,” he told Sportsnet.ca.
“Now it’s not even two weeks away from the tournament, so we’re hoping she’ll be ready. She’s just going to start competing when she’s… ability- and health-wise, totally ready and we’re gonna take no risk. So we’re hoping it’s going to be good to go for Indian Wells, but we need a few more days.”
