Bianca Andreescu’s long-awaited return delayed again as she pulls out of Australian Open warm-up event

The wait to play competitive tennis continues for Bianca Andreescu as she has pulled out of the Grampians Trophy to focus on the Australian Open.
Andreescu has not played a professional level match since the WTA Finals in Shenzhen in 2019 due to injuries and the tennis hiatus, but she had set her sights on the Melbourne WTA 500 event this week.
However, the 2019 US Open champion pulled out at the last-minute and will now head into the season-opening Grand Slam without any meaningful matches under her belt.

“Following the last two weeks in quarantine, it feels so good to finally be back on the court,” the world No 8 said in a statement.
“After discussing it with my team, we have decided to focus this week on training for the Australian Open and miss the Grampians.
“Many thanks to Tennis Australia and the WTA for their hard work in providing us all of these choices. See you all at the Australian Open!”
