Boris Becker denies rumours he’s set to join world number one’s coaching team
Boris Becker has denied rumours that he will coach WTA world number one Simona Halep.
Halep is going into the new season without a coach after Darren Cahill opted to step down to create more time to spend at home with his family.
That has left the Romanian scratching around for help as she looks to build upon her brilliant 2018 season.
However, it won’t be Becker who comes to her aid, with him tweeting: “For info: I will NOT be a trainer or consultant for Simona_Halep.
“It was also never discussed although I greatly appreciate Simo.
“I am filled with my (media) jobs in tennis.”
Zur Info: ich werde NICHT Trainer oder Berater von @Simona_Halep ! Es stand auch nie zur Diskussion obwohl ich Simo sehr schätze bin ich mit meinen Aufgaben im Tennis ausgefüllt! @Eurosport_DE @BBCSport @DTB_Tennis etc pp…
— Boris Becker (@TheBorisBecker) December 27, 2018
Romania Fed Cup captain Florin Segarceanu has been helping Halep during the off-season, but has made it clear he is not interested in taking the role permanently.
