It will be a “special moment” for Emma Raducanu when she plays in front of Romania fans with the US Open champion set to compete in the main draw of the Transylvania Open.

The 18-year-old, whose father was born in Romania, has joined former world No 1 and two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep on the list of entries for the European event.

“I am extremely excited to play at the Transylvania Open, in front of Romanian fans,” she is quoted as saying by Actualdecluj.ro.

“My father is from Romania, so to participate for the first time in a WTA competition in the country where he was born is a special moment and I can’t wait to get to Cluj!”

The WTA 250 event will only be Raducanu’s sixth WTA tournament as she only made her debut at the Nottingham Open in June while it will be her second event since winning the US Open as she is due to play at the BNP Baribas Open next week.

Raducanu has confirmed that she is back in training after a whirlwind couple of weeks saw her play tennis with the Duchess of Cambridge during the Lawn Tennis Association’s homecoming celebrations while she found herself on the red carpet on Tuesday after attending the premiere of the latest Bond film, No Time To Die.

The hard-court Transylvania Open will take place from October 23-31 at the BT Arena with 280 points available and a prize pool of $235,238.
