Emma Raducanu joined by Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens, Jelena Ostapenko at Birmingham event

The Rothesay Classic Birmingham will feature a star-studded line-up as Grand Slam champions Emma Raducanu, Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens and Jelena Ostapenko will all be in the main draw.
Organisers confirmed reigning US Open champion Raducanu as their feature player for this year’s WTA 250 event earlier in May and on Tuesday they added the names of former world No 1 Halep – who won the French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019 – as well 2017 US Open champion Stephens and 2017 French Open winner Ostapenko.
Patrick Hughesman, tournament director at Rothesay Classic Birmingham said: “Having major champions enter the Rothesay Classic WTA 250 event is an incredibly exciting prospect for all tennis and sports fans alike.
“Emma Raducanu, Simona Halep, Jelena Ostapenko and Sloane Stephens will certainly provide some of the hottest tickets in the Midlands sporting calendar as they turn up the heat in trying to win and lift the famous Maud Watson Trophy on finals day.
“We are also excited to celebrate 40 years of our great tournament and have some wonderful events over the course of the week to toast this moment. I can’t wait to welcome the players back to Birmingham together with the potential of having capacity crowds.”
Other players inside the WTA top 50 who will join the field include world No 27 Sorana Cirstea, Camila Giorgi (No 29), Elise Mertens (No 33) and Ajla Tomljanovic (No 44).
The Rothesay Classic Birmingham will take place from June 11-29 at Edgbaston Priory Club.
