Emma Raducanu’s year-end ranking confirmed as she finishes remarkable season inside top 20

Emma Raducanu climbed an incredible 324 places in the WTA Rankings in 2021 and she will finish the year inside the world top 20.
With the season done and dusted following the completion of the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, Mexico, the year-end WTA Rankings have been ratified and Raducanu moved up one spot in the final list to No 19.
Just under a fortnight ago Raducanu became only the fifth British woman to reach the top 20 as she followed in the footsteps of Virginia Wade, Sue Barker, Jo Durie and Johanna Konta.
The 19-year-old ends her debut campaign at No 19 with 2,627 points, having risen 324 places after starting the year at No 343.
She made her first big move at Wimbledon as she reached the fourth round on her maiden Grand Slam main draw appearance, jumping to No 179 in the world.
However, bigger and better things were still to come as she went on a fairytale run at the US Open – becoming the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam.
Her victory at Flushing Meadows saw her move to No 23 in the rankings and take over as British No 1 while she climbed to No 20 on the back of two wins at the Transylvania Open.
Emma Raducanu sums up 2021 with two pictures as she declares herself ‘excited and motivated for next steps’
She moved up one more spot to No 19 in the season-end rankings as Belgium’s Elise Mertens dropped out of the top 20.
With no ranking points to defend in the first half of the 2022 season, Raducanu could still move up several places at the start of next season as she will only start losing points at Wimbledon.
