2024 Wimbledon finalists Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolini are in danger of slipping down the WTA Rankings after this year’s tournament as they have a lot of points to defend at this year’s grass-court Grand Slam.

Krejcikova produced a magical fortnight at Wimbledon last year as she started the tournament as an outsider as she was seeded No 32, but she defeated 11th seed Danielle Collins, 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and fourth seed and 2022 Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina to reach the final.

She took on seventh seed Paolini – who had finished runner-up at Roland Garros a few weeks earlier – in the grand finale and won in three sets to secure her second Grand Slam trophy after her 2021 French Open trophy.

Grand Slam winners earn 2,000 points while finalists earn 1,300 points so Krejcikova and Paolini stand to lose the most at Wimbledon this year.

The Czech is currently 16th in the Live WTA Rankings with 2,724 points so will be on 724 points once the 2,000 are deducted, which will result in a slide to just outside the top 100.

Of course, players have a chance to earn points during each round starting with 10 in the first round, 70 in round two, 130 in round three, 240 in the last 16, 430 in the quarter-final and 780 in the semi-final.

Paolini sits at No 7 with 4,719 points in the Live Rankings, but she can still earn more points ahead of Wimbledon as she is playing in Bad Homburg.

But once she drops the 1,300 points from her current tally she will move to 3,419 (based on current tally), still good enough to be just outside the top 10.

Rybakina and Donna Vekic were the losing semi-finalists in 2024 and the former is currently 11th and likely to fall just a few spots while Vekic could drop outside the top 50 once she loses her 780 points.

World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka is in a good position as she didn’t play last year due to a shoulder injury so she won’t drop points and will remain on 11,640.

The Belarusian, though, can add to that tally during the tournament.

Coco Gauff defeated Sabalenka in the recent Roland Garros final and the American lost in the fourth round last year so will drop 240 points, but she won’t be able to overtake the Belarusian as she is more than 3,000 points adrift.

World No 3 Jessica Pegula will drop 70 points, Zheng Qinwen 10, Madison Keys 240, Mirra Andreeva 10 and Iga Swiatek 130.

Outside the top 10

Ostapenko, currently at No 21 in the Live Rankings, lost in the quarters last year so will drop 430 points while the likes of Elina Svitolina (No 13) and Emma Raducanu (No 40) will drop 240 points after reaching the last 16.

Svitolina will remain in the top after Wimbledon while Raducanu (currently on 1,321) could be outside the top 50 once the 240 points are removed.
