Iga Swiatek keen to hit the books sooner rather than later

Iga Swiatek pleased

Iga Swiatek believes she will make furthering her education a priority at some point as she misses the stimulation of learning.

Swiatek is not long out of high school, but she is eager to further her education when she gets a chance.

She has admitted that this may only happen after she gives up on her playing career.

“I really like to learn, so I’m kind of still used to school, you know?,” she said according to Eurosport.

“I finished two years ago and miss just having some stimulation that way.

“But on the other hand, I know I can’t do much because my priority is tennis and my career.

“I’m pretty sure that maybe after I finish, I will go to some university.

“I’m just curious about the world. And I sometimes have to stop being curious because I need to focus on tennis.

“And I’m trying to kind of still have that curiosity, maybe not during the matches and tournaments, but when I have time off.”

Swiatek is an avid reader and often has in depth chats at her pressers about what she is diving into.

She has even launched her own book club across social media and encouarges her fans to read the books that she is tackling so they can be discussed on her pages.

Swiatek said that while she might not make a call any time soon, she feels that furthering her understanding of the world through formal education is something she wants to get into.

“Right now it’s going to be hard to make a decision to go back to studying because I feel like really I can achieve big things,” she said. “I just want to focus on that.

“But really I’m only 19, so a lot can change during few years. We are going to see. Maybe I’m going to be hungry for knowledge or anything.

“I think if I’m going to be in a few finals of Grand Slams, it would be impossible to study and playing that kind of tennis consistently.”

Swiatek swept into the fourth round of the Madrid Open earlier this week, beating No 28 seed Bernarda Pera 6-3 6-2.

She came into the event off the back of winning her second title of the season in Stuttgart, where she defended her crown against Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek is set to face Ekaterina Alexandrova next after the Russian defeated Qinwen Zheng in three sets.
