Maria Sharapova discusses retirement as she begins to eye fresh WTA talent

Maria Sharapova unimpressed

Maria Sharapova has openly discussed retirement and says she is not concerned over the readiness of the WTA talent to take her place.

The Russia has really struggled to regain her ranking, and her best form, since serving a drugs ban two years ago.

She has finished the season languishing down in 29th spot, and has perhaps started to look to the future.

“You’re always going to see new up‑and‑comers and talent, you know,” Sharapova said.

“Great players that are juniors and that are making the transition from the juniors to the pros. It’s part of it.

“When you retire, there’s always going to be somebody that takes your place in the rankings and the draws. That’s just the reality of it.”
