Top Russian coach explains Maria Sharapova’s struggles since doping ban
Maria Sharapova has lost her identity and rhythm on the tennis court since returning from a drugs ban, says legendary Russian coach Viktor Yanchuk.
Yanchuk coached some of Russia’s best talent in his career and was a Fed Cup captain.
And, speaking about Sharapova’s struggles, he was clear about what he believes the problem to be.
“Sharapova is still trying to find herself, in no way she can earn confidence”, Yanchuk is quoted to have said by Championat.
“Maria has less match rhythm as she withdrew from so many tournaments. With her talent, she can start playing at a high level and potentially beat any player.
“But her matches are unpredictable.”
Sharapova’s season ended early after she crashed out of the US Open.
