Simona Halep confirms identity of new coach as she hopes to halt rankings slide
Former world number one Simona Halep has confirmed the appointment of compatriot Daniel Dobre as her new coach.
The reigning French Open champion has been going it alone since braking with Darren Cahill at the end of last year, but results have not been good and her rankings has started to slide to third in the world.
She spoke recently about how she was ‘missing’ having the influence of a coach on tour, but that’s something she has now rectified.
“I have a Romanian coach, someone I’ve worked with before, even during my time with Darren,” she announced at the Miami Open on Wednesday.
“His name is Daniel Dobre. We worked before Darren as well, so he knows me pretty well, and I feel happy with this decision.”
“I trust him, and we had a good collaboration in the past.
“The most important thing is that I feel good with him. We have a good connection, and it makes things easier.”
