The WTA Tour has got off to a blockbuster start in 2024, with plenty of big matches – and even bigger hitting at times.

With just three months of the season gone, there have been plenty of talking points, with the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka continuing to attract attention.

Sabalenka dominated the field at the Australian Open, not even dropping a set as she successfully defended her title, while triumphs in Doha and Indian Wells have cemented Swiatek’s spot as the world No 1.

However, while these two lead the way in the singles rankings, both are a little bit behind when it comes to serving numbers this year, in particular aces.

Sabalenka, considered one of the best servers in the women’s game, is just eighth for the season so far, while Swiatek lags behind in 31st spot.

In-form Rybakina on top

Elena Rybakina has been in fine form so far this season, with titles in Brisbane and Abu Dhabi and further finals in Doha and Miami.

And it should come as no surprise that the world No 4 – one of the cleanest ballstrikers in the game – is on top when it comes to aces this year.

The Kazakh has hit an astonishing 181 aces across just 26 matches so far in 2024, meaning she is hitting an average of just under seven aces per contest this season.

Hot on her heels is former world No 1 and two-time Grand Slam finalist Karolina Pliskova, who has played 18 matches this season but already has 157 aces to her name.

Rounding out the top three is another of the famed big servers in women’s tennis in the form of Caroline Garcia, with 123 aces across her 17 matches.

Some of Garcia’s most memorable matches in 2024 have come against Naomi Osaka and it is the four-time major winner that has hit the fourth most aces of any women to date, with 107 to her name.

Osaka holds that fourth spot jointly with Zheng Qinwen, with the Australian Open runner-up also on 107 aces for the season currently.>

Recent Miami Open semi-finalist Ekaterina Alexandrova sits in sixth spot with 105 aces, just ahead of former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko on 102.

World No 2 Sabalenka comes home in eighth on 97 aces while US Open champion Coco Gauff round out the top nine, on 93 aces for 2024.
