Aryna Sabalenka has continued to strengthen her grip on the No 1 spot in the WTA Rankings, but the honour of the biggest riser of the week goes to Marketa Vondrousova.

There was a 200-odd points swing between the top two in the rankings following their mixed fortunes at the Berlin Tennis Open as Sabalenka added 87 points to her tally after reaching the semi-final while Coco Gauff dropped 185 points after losing early.

The end result is an increase to 11,640 points for the three-time Grand Slam winner as she opened a 3,741-point lead over Gauff with the newly-crowned French Open champion on 7,899.

The Belarusian is now in her 35th consecutive week at No 1, taking her overall total to 43 weeks to sit at No 14 in the all-time list for most weeks at No 1 in the rankings.

Sabalenka has compatriot Victoria Azarenka in her sights as the two-time Australian Open winner is on 53 weeks in 13th place.

Other changes in the top 10 sees Jasmine Paolini and Zheng Qinwen swapping places with the Italian back at No 4 while Paula Badosa also climbed back to No 9 with Emma Navarro dropping one place.

American McCartney Kessler won the third title of her career and second in 2025 as she defeated Dayana Yastremska in the Nottingham Open final.

With the title run she climbed 10 places in the rankings to a new career-high No 32, putting her just one place above Berlin runner-up Xinyu Wang.

Xinyu came through qualifying in Germany and upset Gauff in the second round and Badosa in the quarter-final before losing in three sets in the final against Vondrousova.

2023 Wimbledon winner Vondrousova has struggled with injury in recent months and she used her protected ranking to enter the tournament as she was down at No 164.

Back to the top 50, Emma Raducanu slipped two places to No 38 after she opted not to compete in Germany following her recent back injury. But she keeps her British No 1 title with Katie Boulter also dropping two spots to No 41.

Ajla Tomljanovic continues to struggle as she slipped 14 places to No 80 after losing in the qualifiers in Berlin while former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka has exited the top 100 for the first time since 2017 and she dropped 29 places to No 105.
