WTA Rankings: Iga Swiatek draws level with Caroline Wozniacki; Jessica Pegula overtakes Elena Rybakina

A delighted Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek started her 71st week at the top of the WTA Rankings on Monday to move up to joint 10th in the all-time list for most weeks spent at No 1 in the world.

Swiatek has been top of the rankings since April 4, 2022 and she is now level with Wozniacki on 71 when it comes to total weeks at No 1, although the pair are well off the big guns in the all-time list.

Steffi Graf headlines that particular list with 377 weeks and she is followed by Martina Navratilova (332), Serena Williams (319), Chris Evert (260), Martina Hingis (209), Monica Seles (178), Ashleigh Barty (121), Justine Henin (117) and Lindsay Davenport (98).

Swiatek as well as Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina were not in action over the past week and the top two positions are unchanged, but Sabalenka did drop some points as she competed in the now-defunct San Jose event over the same period last year.

As a result, the Pole’s lead over Sabalenka increased to 744 points while Rybakina dropped a place to No 4 on the back of Jessica Pegula’s run to the semi-final of the Citi DC Open with the American now back at her career-high No 3.

Although she didn’t move up in the rankings, Coco Gauff was the big winner over the weekend as she won her first WTA 500 event when she defeated Maria Sakkari in the Washington final. The American, who now has four titles to her name, stays at No 7 while Sakkari is up to No 8 after finishing runner-up.

Nao Hibino was the other WTA Tour trophy winner the past week as she won the third title of her career and first since September 2019 when she beat teenager Linda Noskova in the delayed Prague Open final on Monday. The Japanese star started the week at No 139, but she back into the top 100 after her title run and sits at No 84 – surging up 52 places.

What makes Hibino’s title run even more impressive is the fact that she was a lucky loser as she lost in round two of the Prague qualifiers while she also won the doubles title.

The 18-year-old Noskova jumped 19 places to No 52 after finishing runner-up.
