Iga Swiatek survived yet another attempt from Aryna Sabalenka to usurp her at No 1 in the WTA Rankings, but Marketa Vondrousova and Elina Svitolina are the big winners in the post-Wimbledon rankings update.

Four-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek started the grass-court Grand Slam with a 924-point lead over her nearest rival, but her quarter-final defeat opened the door for Sabalenka to become world No 1 for the first time in her career.

The Belarusian, though, had to reach the final at SW19 to jump ahead of Swiatek, but she was beaten in the semi-final by Ons Jabeur. It means Swiatek has now spent 67 consecutive weeks at No 1, which puts her 11th in the all-time list for most weeks at the top.

The top three players remain in the rankings remain unchanged with Swiatek leading Sabalenka and 2022 Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina, but the Pole’s lead over her closest challenger is now just 470 points – in other words, Sabalenka is one WTA 500 title away from becoming world No 1.

“For me it’s more about how you finish the year than during the year you’re first, second, you just go back and forth,” Sabelenka said after her Wimbledon exit.

“I’ll keep pushing myself and do everything I can to finish this year as world No 1.”

The top eight remains unchanged, although Jabeur added a healthy 1,300 points to her tally while Petra Kvitova moved up one place following her run to the quarter-final.

Vondrousova – who was outside the top 100 just over four months ago – makes her top 10 debut as she jumped 32 places in the WTA Rankings after picking up 2,000 points to go with the Wimbledon title and the shiny Venus Rosewater Dish.

There are only one or two minor changes in the remainder of the top 20, but further down Svitolina surged 49 places to No 27 as she returned to the top 30 for the first time since May last year.

Former world No 3 Svitolina missed the bulk of the 2022 campaign and the start of 2023 as she gave birth in October last year. She finished the year outside the top 20 and by April she was ranked No 1,344.

However, she reached the quarter-final at the French Open and followed it up with a run to the semi-final at Wimbledon with the latter event adding 780 points to her total of 1,578.

Meanwhile, teenager Mirra Andreeva moved up 39 places to make her top 100 debut and she enters at No 66 following her run to the quarter-final.

British No 1 Katie Boulter is up to a career-high No 73 as she moved up 16 places after reaching the third round at Wimbledon.
