Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu are big ranking winners

Iga Swiatek has started her 39th consecutive week at No 1 in the WTA Rankings, but there were minimal changes in the top 20 due to the Paris Olympics.

Most of the players in the top 50 were in action at Roland Garros where no ranking points were on offer, but one or two did drop points from the tournaments they played in during the corresponding period in 2023.

Swiatek leads the way at the top with 11,005 points and has now spent a total of 114 weeks at No 1 with Coco Gauff second with 7,703 points and Aryna Sabalenka on 7,256. Gauff dropped 470 points as she didn’t defend her Washington Open title due to the Olympics.

Danielle Collins and Maria Sakkari swapped places with the American now at No 8 while Victoria Azarenka also moved up one place to No 19.

But there were some big twists lower down the rankings as those who didn’t compete in Paris were in action in Washington DC.

Paula Badosa was the big winner as she won the WTA 500 trophy – the fourth singles title of her career and first since January 2022 – as she beat Marie Bouzkova 6–1, 4–6, 6–4 in the final.

The former world No 2 has struggled with injury since the start of the 2023 season as she missed several months of action and slipped down the rankings.

Badosa’s title run saw her surge 22 places to No 40 – her highest position since July last year – while Bouzkova moved up seven spots to No 37.

Emma Raducanu was the other big mover as she jumped 20 places to No 69 and it means she is now the British No 2 as she overtook Harriet Dart, who sits at No 78, with Katie Boulter at No 33.

The 2021 US Open winner reached the quarter-final in Washington before going down in three sets against Badosa and there is further good news for Raducanu as she doesn’t have any points to defend until the end of the year.

Taylor Townsend has reached a career-high of No 71 on the back of moving up seven spots with her two wins at Washington.

There will be a lot of movement in the WTA Rankings over the next week as most of the players who competed at the Paris Olympics have skipped the Canadian Open.

Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini, Zheng Qinwen, Collins, Sakkari and Barbora Krejcikova are the top 10 stars missing.

Gauff will be the top seed with Jessica Pegula the defending champion.
