WTA Transylvania Open draw: Potential Simona Halep and Emma Raducanu blockbuster semi-final looming

Emma Raducanu delighted

Top seed Simona Halep and US Open champion Emma Raducanu find themselves in the same half of the draw at the inaugural Transylvania Open.

The WTA 250 event will make its debut next week and local hero and former world No 1 Halep and Raducanu are the two headline acts.

Disappointment for Emma Raducanu as she prepares to play in Romania

Halep, who took over as top seed after Spaniards Garbine Muguruza and Paula Bardosa withdrew, will open her campaign against fellow Romanian Gabriela Ruse.

She could meet fifth seed Alja Tomljanovic from Australian in the quarter-final while her projected semi-final opponent is Raducanu.

The 18-year-old Raducanu, who lost in straight sets against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in her only match since winning the US Open, will kick off her campaign Polona Hercog while Ana Bogdan or Ivana Jorović are potential second-round opponents.

Should the British No 1 come through that clash then sixth seed Marta Kostyuk is her likely quarter-final opponent with the winner of that clash expected to face Halep.

Second seed Anett Kontaveit headlines the bottom half and the Estonian will open her campaign against a qualifier while eighth seed Anhelina Kalinina is a projected quarter-final rival.

Jill Teichman is the other leading contender in the bottom half and the fourth seed from Switzerland will face a qualifier first up while seventh seed Irina-Camilia Begu is likely to be her quarter-final opponent.
