Alex Eala sends message to Venus Williams after doubles appearance in Canada
Alex Eala had a Canadian Open to remember by reaching the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 event.
Eala picked up victories against Alycia Parks and Caty McNally, much to the delight of a raucous, Filipino-heavy crowd in Toronto.
She was eventually defeated by Belinda Bencic in straight sets, but the star continued the good form she has shown throughout the summer months, which has included a Washington Open title victory and a run to the Wimbledon fourth round.
As well as playing in the singles at the Canadian Open, Eala also paired with Venus Williams once againt to play doubles with the Grand Slam champion.
The pair also played together at Bad Homburg earlier this year, where they reached the quarter finals, but Eala and Williams were defeated by Liudmila Samsonova and Miyu Kato in the first round in Toronto.
Nevertheless, Eala took to social media to share a message with Williams following their brief partnership at the Canadian Open.

Via her Instagram stories, Eala wrote: “Another amazing opportunity to share the court with one of the greatest. Thank you, Venus Williams!”
Eala also took to Instagram to share a collection of photos from her time at the Canadian Open, which proved the star’s popularity even further.
The Filipina star played in front of a sold-out Centre Court three times in a row in Toronto, with fans desperate to watch the star in action.
After her run in Canada, Eala said on Instagram: “Difficult to put into words but very easy to be grateful for you all. Feeling the love in ways that I will probably only fully appreciate later.
“Thank you for allowing me to experience beyond what I know,” continued the 21-year-old. “I am quite the lucky one.”
Eala will now head to the Cincinnati Open, where her busy schedule continues. The star is up to world No 20 in the WTA Tour rankings following her bright spell and there’s every chance it will continue on the North American swing.
She is not defending any ranking points at the Ohio event, having never played the main draw before, so she has a major opportunity to climb up the WTA Tour rankings even more.
Eala only reached the second round of the US Open in the 2025 season too, so it could be a very lucrative time for the Filipina star when it comes to rankings.
She currently sits 240 ranking points behind Ekaterina Alexandrova, who is the world No 19, so there is every chance to usurp the star at the Cincinnati Open.
