With the Cincinnati Open approaching its conclusion, the 2026 US Open is just around the corner, and three more players have pulled out of the year’s final Grand Slam.

The combined 1000 event in Cincinnati is the last major stop on the ATP and WTA Tours before the North American summer hard-court swing reaches its crescendo at the US Open.

The US Open is staged at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York City, and this year’s tournament will be the 146th edition.

Main draw singles play will get underway on Sunday 30 August and conclude with the men’s singles final on Sunday 13 September.

Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka are the reigning US Open singles champions, with the duo having each claimed their second titles at the hard-court major last year.

There were doubts over whether Alcaraz would be able to defend his crown as the Spanish icon has not played since April due to a right wrist injury.

However, the seven-time major champion confirmed on Thursday that he will compete in New York.

Doubts over big name ATP players

More ATP Tour stars could join the US Open withdrawal list as there are doubts over the fitness of a trio of high-profile players.

Jannik Sinner, the world No 1 and a five-time Grand Slam champion, did not play at the Cincinnati Masters due to a knee injury.

Jack Draper played in Montreal and Cincinnati, but he continues to struggle with a bone bruising injury in his left arm that has hampered him for over a year.

Holger Rune, meanwhile, has not played a match since rupturing his Achilles in October last year.

As things stand, these three players remain on the US Open entry list.
