The 5 men with the most ATP Finals match wins: Roger Federer’s record safe for foreseeable future
Roger Federer has notched up the most match wins at the ATP Finals and he is one of only two men with more than 50 victories at the event.
The season-ending tournament has been part of the ATP calendar since 1970 with Stan Smith winning the inaugural trophy as he defeated the great Rod Laver in the final.
Novak Djokovic won the most recent title – the 2023 tournament in Turin – as he beat Jannik Sinner in the showpiece match to win a record-breaking seventh title as he surpassed Federer.
But despite his seven titles, Djokovic does not hold the record for the most match wins with that honour going to Federer.
Djokovic will also not be able to add to his tally this year as he has opted to skip the 2024 edition. Only two former champions in Alexander Zverev (2018 and 2021) and Daniil Medvedev (2020) are in the 2024 ATP Finals line-up.
Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev are the other six players who will compete in Turin.
The eight qualifiers have a combined 43 match wins between them with Zverev leading the way on 14 and Medvedev on 11 so they all will have to feature at several tournaments in future if they are to get close to the top five as you can only play a maximum of five matches under the current format.
Djokovic will have to probably win two more tournaments unbeaten to surpass Federer.
Outside of the top five, Ilie Nastase (22), Andre Agassi (22) and Rafael Nadal (21) are the only other men with more than 20 wins at the ATP Finals.
The five men with the most ATP Finals match wins:
5. Pete Sampras – 35
Six-time ATP Player of the Year Pete Sampras qualified for the season-ending tournament on 11 occasions and won the title 1991, 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1999, and also finished runner-up in 1993.
The 14-time Grand Slam champion finished with a 35–14 (71%) career record at the Finals.
4. Boris Becker – 36
Boris Becker’s three Finals titles were won in 1988, 1992 and 1995 while he also finished runner-up at five different editions.
Of the 11 editions that he played, he reached the final eight times as he won titles in 1988, 1992 and 1995 and finished runner-up on five occasions.
The six-time Grand Slam winner had a 36–13 (73%) win-loss record.

However, he is in second place for most match wins as well as most matches played (68).
