Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Carlos Alcaraz all star among the players with the best win rates on grass courts in the Open Era.

Four men have a win percentage of over 85% on sport’s original court surface.

Here are the seven players with the highest win rate in ATP Tour matches on grass (with a minimum of 20 wins).

7. Jimmy Connors – 83%

Jimmy Connors compiled a 185-38 record from his 223 grass-court matches and secured nine titles from the 17 championship matches he reached on the surface.

The American’s title tally on grass includes two Wimbledon titles, a single title at both the Australian and US Opens, and three Queen’s Club titles.

6. Pete Sampras – 83.5%

Pete Sampras finished his career with a 101-20 record from the 121 matches he played on grass courts, making it his best surface by measure of win rate.

The American won 10 titles on grass from the 13 finals he contested on the surface. He was a seven-time champion at Wimbledon, while he also triumphed at Queen’s Club twice and the Manchester Open once.

5. Rod Laver – 84.8%

Rod Laver accumulated a 95-17 record from his 112 grass-court matches in the Open Era and won eight titles on the surface.

Four of the Australian’s grass titles came at Grand Slams: Wimbledon (twice), the Australian Open and the US Open.

4. John McEnroe – 85.8%

John McEnroe amassed a 121-20 record from the 141 matches he contested on grass, which makes it his most successful surface by win rate.

The American claimed eight titles on grass from the 13 finals he reached, with three of his victories coming at Wimbledon and four at Queen’s Club.

3. Novak Djokovic – 85.7%

Novak Djokovic holds a 120-20 record from the 140 matches he has played on grass in his career to date, which translates to his best win percentage on a single surface.

The Serbian has secured seven of his eight grass titles at Wimbledon, while the other came in Eastbourne. He has also been a runner-up on the surface on six occasions.

2. Roger Federer – 86.9%

Roger Federer finished his career with a 115-19 record from his 134 matches on grass courts, which makes it his most successful surface by win rate.

The Swiss won 19 grass-court titles from the 27 finals he reached on the surface — both of which are records — with his triumphs coming at the Halle Open (10 titles), Wimbledon (eight titles) and the Stuttgart Open (one title).

1. Carlos Alcaraz – 90%

Following his quarter-final victory at the 2025 Queen’s Club Championships, Carlos Alcaraz holds a 27-3 record on grass, which equates to the highest ATP win rate of any male player on the surface. This is the highest win percentage Alcaraz holds on a single surface.

The Spaniard has collected three titles on grass, a tally featuring two Wimbledon crowns and one title at the Queen’s Club Championships.
